Report: Jairus Byrd Visiting With The Saints

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Bills free agent S Jairus Byrd is on his way to visit with the New Orleans Saints.

Byrd, 27, is believed to seeking a long-term deal that would pay him as much as $9 million per season.

Last year, Byrd totaled 48 tackles, 4 sacks, one interception and a forced fumble for the Bills defense. Pro Football Focus has Byrd rated as the No. 8 safety in the league last season.

Ian Rapoport reports that re-signing with the Buffalo Bills remains a possibility for free agent S Jairus Byrd

  • Rapoport adds that, from what he’s hearing, it would be really surprising if Redskins were in on Byrd.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Bills free agent S Jairus Byrd has “scared some teams off” with his asking price of more than $8 million per year.

  • Breer adds that, despite a few talks balking at his Byrd’s asking price, there is still a chance he’ll get that salary in his next contract.

According to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald, the talk of the Dolphins being an option for free agent S Jairus Byrd is a “smokescreen.”

  • Ian Rapoport reported that the Dolphins are among the NFL teams to have expressed interest in Byrd.
  • Rapoport adds that the Dolphins are “gearing up for another big year in free agency.”

According to Ian Rapoport, the Redskins and Browns have interest in Bills’ free agent S Jairus Byrd.

This is interesting given that Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported over the weekend that the Browns had yet to inquire about Byrd.

Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins have expressed interest in Bills’ free agent S Jairus Byrd.

  • Jones mentions that contract talks are “not at a serious point” as of now.

James Walker of ESPN.com reports that free agent S Jairus Byrd is seeking a long-term deal that would pay him as much as $9 million per season.

  • Walker adds that the market f0r Byrd is “strong enough” that he should be able to come close to the contract of Chiefs’ S Eric Berry — six years, $60 million, $10 million per season.

As of now, the Dolphins and Rams are believed to have interest while the Eagles and Browns haven’t shown much interest up to this point.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, citing a league sourcereports that the Browns have yet to inquire about Bills’ free agent S Jairus Byrd.

  • Cabot adds Cleveland hasn’t contracted Byrd’s reps as of Sunday at 12:45 p.m.

Rumors have continued to link Byrd to the Browns given that they hired Bills’ defensive coordinator Mike Pettine as their new head coach a few months ago.

Ian Rapoport reports that the St. Louis Rams were among the teams who inquired about Bills’ S Jairus Byrd on Saturday.

We’re still waiting to hear who else reached out to Byrd today, but it is at least a little surprising to hear that the Rams contacted him given that they have limited cap space to work.

  1. its agent smoke screen when it comes to Byrd and the Dolphins. they brought Delmas in weeks ago then just signed him today. doesnt look like the Dolphins were interested AT ALL.
