Rams Sign P Johnny Hekker To A Six-Year, $18M Extension

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Rams have signed P Johnny Hekker to six-year contract extension worth $18 million.

  • Schefter adds that Hekker’s new contract includes $9 million guaranteed.
  • This contract will pay Hekker the highest guarantees for any kicker or punter in the NFL.

This is a very solid contract for Hekker and should set the market for punters around the league in the coming years.

Hekker, 24, signed on with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State back in 2012. He was in the final year of his rookie contract that included a base salary of $570,000 for the 2014 season.

This year, Hekker is rated as the No. 3 punter in the league out of 34 qualifying players, according to Pro Football Focus. He’s currently sixth in the NFL in terms of net punting yards and has had 23 punts downed inside the 20 yard line.
