Rams Sixth-Round WR Bud Sasser Clears Waivers, Reverts To NFI List

Rams sixth-round selection WR Bud Sasser cleared waivers on Friday and was reverted to the team’s reserve/non-football illness list.

Sasser was released after it was discovered that he has a heart condition during his physical. The Rams still signed him to a contract and gave him a signing bonus, even after this was discovered.

Rams HC Jeff Fisher discussed their decision to waive sixth-round pick WR Bud Sasser on Thursday, due to a heart condition that was discovered.

We did some extensive studies after the draft,” Fisher said. “They’re very extensive, as you can imagine, and it was determined and concluded by numerous physicians that he had a pre-existing condition that we don’t feel will allow him to play. . . .

“He was a non-Combine guy and that happens sometimes. Our team physicians, outside physicians, other specialists recommended that he not play. It was a pre-existing condition. We agreed to terms. He got a signing bonus. We’re just going to see what his future holds.”

Meanwhile, Sasser’s agent, Scott Thield, mentioned that his client should still be able to play as there are others in the NFL with the same issue.

He has a very small case of the diagnosis given in St. Louis, he is at little to no risk,he should be able to play,” Thield said via the Columbia (Mo.) Tribune. “The doctor told Bud he in fact knows there are others in the league playing with this same issue.

During his four-year college career at Missouri, Sasser caught 116 passes for 1,611 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns.
