Rams HC Jeff Fisher told reporters after Sunday’s loss to the Giants in London that they’re sticking with Case Keenum as their starting quarterback, despite his poor performance, per Gregg Rosenthal.
“I’ll make changes at receiver before I make a change at quarterback,” Fisher said, per Rosenthal.
The Rams’ offensive continues to struggle, which has led to plenty of speculation that they will finally turn to No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff. However, Fisher continues to stand behind Keenum as his starting quarterback.
Los Angeles clearly doesn’t want to put Goff in a situation and have him fail, but it’s hard to imagine he wouldn’t be an upgrade to Keenum.
Keenum, 28, wound up signing on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Houston back in 2013. He spent two years with the Texans before he was claimed off of waivers by the Rams.
He later returned to the Texans before being traded to the Rams for a 2016 seventh-round pick. The Rams elected to use a first-round tender on Keenum several months ago will pay him $3.635 million for the 2016 season.
In 2016, Keenum has appeared in seven games and completed 62 percent of his passes for 1,708 yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 26 quarterback out of 35 qualifying players.
