Rams Still Hoping To Sign S Donte Whitner, But Asking Price Too High Right Now

Nick Wagoner of ESPN reports that the Rams are still hoping to get a deal done with free agent S Donte Whitner. However, they’re reportedly uncomfortable with his price tag.

The Rams brought Whitner in for a visit a few weeks ago, but there hasn’t been any buzz about him since then.

Whitner, 30, was in the third year of his four-year, $28 million contract that included $13 million guaranteed with Cleveland at the time of his release. He was set to make base salaries of $6.2 million in 2016 and another $6.3 million in 2017 over the remainder of the agreement.

In 2015, Whitner appeared in 14 games and recorded 81 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, no interceptions and four pass defenses for the Browns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 24 safety out of 89 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
