Rams To Work Out Texas A&Ms QB Manziel, OT Matthews, WR Evans

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Rams will work out a trio of Texas A&M players: QB Johnny Manziel, OT Jake Matthews, and WR Mike Evans.

  • Mortensen adds that the Rams will also work out players at Notre Dame, Ohio St, and Tennessee before the draft.
  • Adam Caplan of ESPN believes this workout will occur “before this week ends.”

The Rams hold the 2nd and 13th picks in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, though there is some speculation that they could be active on draft day.

St. Louis has been linked most often to Clemson WR Sammy Watkins and Auburn OT Greg Robinson, though it’s difficult to differentiate between truth and speculation at this point.

Matthews and Evans would certainly fit needs for St. Louis, though Manziel is a more intriguing option.  The Rams may simply want to have a familiar option at quarterback for Matthews and Evans’ workout, though they could be doing their homework on the enigmatic Manziel as well.

Former No. 1 overall pick QB Sam Bradford has two years and $27 million remaining on his deal.  It may be wise for the Rams to consider a successor, though it is more likely that they continue to stockpile weapons for the Oklahoma product.

We have the Rams selecting OT Greg Robinson and Alabama S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix with their first two picks respectively in our 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
