Randall Cobb Hoping To Be Back With The Packers Next Year

Packers WR Randall Cobb told reporters on Monday that he’s hoping to be back with in Green Bay next year, but added that “[it’s] a business.

Of couse (I want to be back). I think I’ve made that obvious,” Cobb said, via NFL.com. “Like I’ve said before: This is a business. You don’t know how it’s going to go. What direction it’s going to go in. You just have to sit around. I hope that I’ve put myself in the position where it’ll handle itself. But only time can tell.

Aaron Rodgers mentioned a month ago that it’s “important” for the Packers to re-sign Cobb.

Rodgers also praised Cobb, adding that he is a “great teammate“, “a developing leader” and someone who exemplifies “what it means to be a Packer.”

Green Bay employed Cobb in a variety of different positions and formations this year and it’s clear that they don’t have an obvious replacement for him currently on their roster, seeing how versatile he is to their offensive attack.

It would not be surprising to see Cobb’s camp target a similar contract to the five-year $43 million extension Giants WR Victor Cruz received back in 2013.

Cobb, 24, is finishing up his four-year, $3,209,421 rookie contract and is clearly in position for a sizable raise this offseason.

In 2014, Cobb caught 91 passes for 1,287 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns. He also contributed as the team’s punt returner this year. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 wide receiver out of 110 qualifying players.

We have Cobb listed as the No. 11 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
