Rashad Jennings Says He Expects To Be Back With Giants Next Year

Giants veteran RB Rashad Jennings says he wants to be back with the team and expects to be playing in New York again next year.

“I expect to be back,” Jennings said, via James Kratch of NJ.com. “And I definitely want to be back. I’ve got one more year on my contract, and I’ve got a lot to prove. I look forward to doing it in New York again.”

Jennings is a potential cap casualty for the Giants this offseason, given his limited production last year and the fact that they would pick up around $2.5 million of cap space by cutting him loose.

New York could turn to Paul Perkins next year and invest a draft pick in one of this year’s running backs, which is considered to be a very deep class.

Jennings, 31, is a former seventh-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2009. He spent four years in Jacksonville before signing on with the Raiders in 2013.

The Giants later signed him to a four-year, $10 million contract that included $2.98 million guaranteed and he stands to make a base salary of $2.48 million for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Jennings appeared in 13 games and rushed for 593 yards on 181 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with 35 receptions for 201 yards receiving and four total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 58 running back out of 62 qualifying players.
