Ravens Also Offered Bears RFA WR Cameron Meredith Contract

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Ravens also offered Cameron Meredith a contract before he agreed to a two-year, $9.6 million deal with the Saints.

Biggs explains that the Ravens’ interest in Meredith actually gave him some leverage in negotiations with the Saints.

It’s interesting to hear that the Ravens were comfortable making Meredith an offer, considering that they’re known for being a conservative team in terms of passing players on a physical and Meredith is coming off of ACL and MCL tears in his left knee.

Baltimore signed WR Ryan Grant to a four-year, $29 million contract before voiding deal due to a failed physical.

The Ravens have added Michael Crabtree and John Brown to their receiver corps this offseason, but it appears as though they’re open to adding more depth at the position before training camp.

As for Bears, they have until Wednesday to match the Saints’ offer sheet to Meredith or they would lose him for no compensation.

Meredith, 25, wound up signing on with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois State back in May of 2015. He played out the final year of his three-year, $1.581 million contract and is currently testing the open market as a restricted free agent this offseason.

Meredith missed the 2017 season after suffering a torn ACL.

In 2016, Meredith appeared in 14 games and caught 66 passes for 888 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 53 receiver out of 115 qualifying players that season.
