Veteran C Nick Mangold Leaves Visit With Ravens Without Deal

Update:

Jeff Zrebiec reports that free agent C Nick Mangold left his visit with the Ravens on Wednesday without a contract.

Zrebiec adds that this doesn’t mean the Ravens won’t sign him in the coming days and there’s still interest from both parties.

Jamison Hensley of ESPN is reporting that the Ravens are bringing in veteran C Nick Mangold for a visit in the coming days. According to Hensley, Mangold arrived in Baltimore late Tuesday afternoon and will stay through Wednesday.

The Ravens could actually use a solid option at center after they traded Jeremy Zuttah to the 49ers a month ago. As of now, they have John Urschel and Ryan Jensen at the position.

This is the first reported visit for Mangold since he was cut loose a few days before the start of free agency.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Mangold to a contract won’t impact a team’s compensatory picks, considering that he was released.

Mangold, 33, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2006. He was entering the final year of his eight-year, $57.4 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $6.075 million when the Jets cut him loose this offseason.

In 2016, Mangold appeared in eight games for the Jets and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 25 center out of 38 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
