Ravens C Matt Birk To Retire From The NFL

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens C Matt Birk will retire from football.

Birk, 36, put together a great 2012 season and playoff run for the Ravens. He’s expected to make an official announcement later today.

It’s hard to blame anyone for departing after they’ve won a title later on in their careers. Birk is a six-time Pro Bowler and was voted as the 2011 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.

The Ravens will free up $2.05 million in salary cap space with Birk’s retirement, but also need to find center at some point.
