Ravens In Contract Talks With LT Eugene Monroe & LB Daryl Smith

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome told reporters on Saturday that they have been in contract talks with the impending free agents LT Eugene Monroe and LB Daryl Smith in recent days.

The Ravens reportedly view Monroe as one of their top priorities along with TE Dennis Pitta, so this was to be expected.

Baltimore sent a fourth and fifth-round draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Monroe week or so before the NFL trade deadline.

Monroe, 26, was able to step in and play very well for the Ravens at position of need for them. Trades rarely produce immediate results in the NFL, so there is something to be said about Monroe’s performance last season.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 qualifying left tackle in the league.

Smith, 31, has done enough this season to warrant a multi-year contract after he signed just a one-year deal worth $1.125 million last year. This could make it tough for the Ravens seeing as this could very well be his last chance to sign a decent contract.

We have both players listed in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
