Ravens DE Terrell Suggs Possibly Out For The Season

Suggs was asked whether or not he thought he could return this season to which he responded; “Absolutely. Middle to end of November. Definitely beginning of December,” per Aaron Wilson.

Suggs added that he suffered a partial tear after he initially thought he sprained the tendon. A torn Achilles would likely require him to miss 11 months depending on the severity, but the fact that it’s a partial tear could force him to miss only a percentage of that time.

105.7 The Fan in Baltimore reports that Ravens DE Terrell Suggs will miss the entire 2012 season after a tearing his Achilles’ tendon.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter adds that the injury occured while playing basketball. He’ll undergo surgery to repair the tendon sometime next week.

Ravens LB Terrell Suggs turns 30 in October. Fair to wonder, after a torn Achilles, if we’ll ever see him produce at the same level again.” tweets Schefter.

Suggs was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 and there’s no question that he’s one of the most valuable players to the Ravens defense. Without him, they’ll have to resort to employing a committee approach, with the hope that someone steps up and produces. Thankfully, they drafted Courtney Upshaw in the second-round who played a similar position for the Crimson Tide last year.

    • In 3-4 systems, players like Suggs tend to play multiple positions. In fact, he lined up at defensive for the majority of the 2011 season, according to Pro Football Focus. Maybe I should have put “DE/OLB.”
