Ravens Expected To Approach Terrell Suggs About Lowering His Cap Figure

According to Dan Pompei of the Bleacher Report, even the Ravens have parted ways with high-cost veterans in recent years, aren’t likely to do so with OLB Terrell Suggs before the start of free agency.

However, Pompei adds that the Ravens still need to do something to reduce his 2014 cap figure of $12.4 million. Pompei expects Baltimore to “work a deal” that would offer them some immediate cap relief.

Suggs, 31, is entering the final year of his six-year, $62.5 million contract that included $38.1 million guaranteed. Baltimore could free up $7.8 million in cap space by releasing him outright, according to Overthecap.com, but it seems reasonable that the two parties could discuss a contract extension given that he still proven to be an effective players.

In 2013, Suggs totaled 80 tackles, 10 sacks and a fumble recovery while playing in all 16 games. He’s two years removed from being the Defensive Player of the Year, but was forced to miss half of the 2012 season with a partially torn Achilles. Suggs was able to join the team and help them during their Super Bowl run.

Pro Football Focus rated Suggs as the No. 9 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense this season.

  1. Terrell Suggs should tell the Ravens to go suck eggs he is not taking a pay cut! HE is the franchise on Defense and if they want to trade him, trade him or pay him. Flacco took all that money and is not living up to it, go back to him and get some money, but leave the pro bowler, and NFL MVP the HELL alone!
