Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun expects the Ravens to at least “explore” the possibility of signing free agent WR Brandon Marshall after he’s officially released by the Jets.
Zrebiec admits that it’s still too early to know the Ravens’ level interest in Marshall, but notes that he fits the mold of what Baltimore is looking for at receiver.
Signing Marshall also wouldn’t factor into the Ravens’ compensatory picks next year because he’ll be released, which is actually a big consideration for a team like Baltimore.
Marshall, 32, is a former fourth-round pick by the Broncos in the 2009 NFL Draft. After four years in Denver, he was traded to the Dolphins in 2010.
Marshall’s time in Miami was limited to just two season before he was once again traded, this time to the Bears in return for two third-round picks. In total, Marshall spent three seasons with the Bears, but was traded for a third time to the Jets in March of 2015.
Marshall was in the final year of his contract and set to make a $7.5 million base salary for the 2017 season when the Jets released him in a move that freed up $7.5 million of available cap space.
In 2016, Marshall appeared in 15 games for the Jets and recorded 59 receptions for 788 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus rated Marshall as the No. 67 wide receiver out of 115 qualifying players.
