Ravens Unlikely To Sign WR Eric Decker

Despite some speculation that the team could be interested in free agent WR Eric Decker, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said the team is prioritizing their offensive line and is comfortable with the receivers on the roster.

If I don’t get an offensive lineman, somebody is going to start shooting at me. If I have one bullet left in that gun, I better save it for an offensive lineman,” Bisciotti said, via Jeff Zrebeic of the Baltimore Sun.

Bisciotti went on to say that the team does not have room for another starting wide receiver and that he is saving a “last punch” for a lineman.

I’d say that I don’t think that we have room for a starter at wide receiver now and I do think there’s going to be some talent out there that could challenge for a starting position on our offensive line. I think I’m going to save that last punch for an offensive lineman,” said Bisciotti.

The Ravens just finalized a two-year contract with WR Jeremy Maclin and were reportedly still in the mix for Decker. However, it appears that Baltimore will not sign the veteran free agent.

Bisciotti added that Chris Moore will be the team’s fourth receiver.

I think right now, we have a lot of confidence in Chris Moore to be our fourth wideout and let the competition begin with the fifth and sixth wideout,” said Bisciotti. “[Michael] Campanaro, as you know, has to stay healthy and Keenan Reynolds is developing. Chris Matthews is doing some nice things in camp and did nice things last year in camp.”

Decker, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Broncos back in 2010. He spent four years in Denver before signing a five-year, $36.25 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed with the Jets as a free agent back in 2014.

Decker was set to make base salaries of $7.25 million and $7.5 million over the remaining two years of the agreement with the Jets when they officially released him on Tuesday.

In 2016, Decker was limited to appearing in just three games and catching nine passes for 194 yards receiving and two touchdowns before he was placed on season-ending injured reserve with both hip and shoulder injuries.
