Ravens Promoting CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Placing CB Jimmy Smith On Suspended List

Ravens HC John Harbaugh told reporters on Monday that they are promoting CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste to their active roster and placing CB Jimmy Smith on the reserve/suspended list, per Jeff Zrebiec.

Jean-Baptiste, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Saints back in 2014. He lasted just over a year in New Orleans before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later signed to the Lions’ practice squad.

The Seahawks signed him towards the end of the 2015 season and brought him back on a future/reserve contract. However, Seattle declined to tender him a contract as a restricted free agent this past March.

The Chiefs later signed him to a contract a few months ago before cutting him loose in June. The Jaguars signed him to a contract a month later before waiving him coming out of the preseason.

Jean-Baptiste later signed on to the Ravens’ practice squad.

In 2014, Jean-Baptiste appeared in four games for the Saints, but didn’t record a single statistic.

Smith, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011. He’s currently in the second year of his five-year, $54.89 million contract that includes $21 million guaranteed and is set to make base salaries of $8.5 million and $9 million over the next two years.

Smith is currently serving a four-game suspension.

In 2017, Smith has appeared in 12 games and recorded 28 tackles, three interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 cornerback out of 114 qualifying players.
