Ravens RB Rice Not Reporting For Offseason Workouts Without A New Deal

Aaron Wilson is reporting that Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice will not report to offseason workouts until he has a new contract.

At the unveiling of the new Nike NFL uniforms today, when asked whether he will attend them, Rice said, “I look forward to being there”, adding “I think progress is being made, but I know things don’t happen overnight. If they want to get a deal done, we’ll get a deal done.”

The Ravens slapped the franchise tag on Rice, at a cost of $7.742 million. Rice rushed for a career-high 1,364 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, also catching 76 passes for 704 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Baltimore have until July 15 to get a deal done with their star running back, or else he will play with the franchise tag in 2012. Players that they have used the tag on in the past, such as DT Haloti Ngata, OLB Terrell Suggs and CB Chris McAlister, have secured contract extensions.

That, along with Rice’s willingness to get a deal done, should point towards a positive outcome for both parties.
