Ravens Re-Sign CB Derek Cox, Waive LB Josh Bynes

Update:

The Baltimore Ravens announced the signing of CB Derek Cox Tuesday, as well as the release of LB Josh Bynes.

Bynes, 25, signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn back in 2011. He was entering the final year of his contract and was set to make $570,000 for the 2014 season.

Last year, he appeared in 15 games and recorded 45 tackles and three pass defenses.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens are re-signing veteran CB Derek Cox to a contract just a few days after they cut him loose.

  • According to Wilson, Cox had drawn interest from an AFC South, but he elected to re-up with the Ravens.

Cox, 27, was a free agent bust signing made by the Chargers last season. Cox received a four-year contract worth $20 million that included $10.25 million guaranteed from San Diego, but was released after one season.

The Vikings took a chance on him a few weeks after he was released by the Chargers, but he was released last Monday as they began trimming their roster to 75 players.

Last year, Cox appeared in all 16 games, but totaled just 38 tackles and an interception. Pro Football Focus rated Cox as the No. 104 cornerback in the league out of 110 qualifying players last year.
