Ravens Release Veteran CB Derek Cox

The Baltimore Ravens announced Saturday that they have released veteran CB Derek Cox.

The Ravens released him last week as they began trimming their roster to 75 players, but later re-signed him to a contract on Tuesday.

Aaron Wilson points out that Cox is a vested veteran, which means that his $730,000 salary would be guaranteed if he was on the roster for Week 1.

  • Wilson believes this is a positive sign that they’re comfortable with current group of cornerbacks.

Cox, 27, was a free agent bust signing made by the Chargers last season. Cox received a four-year contract worth $20 million that included $10.25 million guaranteed from San Diego, but was released after one season.

Last year, Cox appeared in all 16 games, but totaled just 38 tackles and an interception. Pro Football Focus rated Cox as the No. 104 cornerback in the league out of 110 qualifying players last year.

We’ll have to see if Baltimore elects to bring him back for a third time next week.
