Ravens Release WR Jacoby Jones

The Baltimore Ravens announced the release of veteran WR Jacoby Jones on Wednesday.

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said of the move: “We think he can still play in the NFL and releasing him now allows him a better opportunity to land with another team.”

There was talk that Jones could be a cap casualty, and given their current cap situation, so this really isn’t much of a surprise.

Jones, 30, signed a four-year, $12 million contract that included $4.5 million guaranteed with the Ravens back in March of last year. He had base salaries of $2.5 million coming his way over the next three years.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Jones will free up $750,000 in cap space while creating $2.625 million in dead money.

In 2014, Jones caught nine passes for 131 yards receiving to go along with 978 kick return yards and 275 punt return yards and a touchdown.
