Ravens Restructure OLB Terrell Suggs’ Contract

Pro Football Talk reports that the Ravens have worked out a restructured contract with OLB Terrell Suggs.

  • Aaron Wilson reports that the  Suggs is converting $3 million of his $4 million base salary into a signing bonus that will be prorated over the remainder of the contract.
  • Wilson adds that this move will create $2.25 million of cap room.
  • Suggs new cap figures are $7.45 million (2016), $6.95 million (2017), and $6.95 million (2018).

Baltimore needs all the cap space they can get and recent reports have said that reworking other player’s contract like NT Haloti Ngata and CB Lardarius Webb may not be all that easy, seeing as they could generate a good deal of interest if they were to be available.

That leaves Suggs as a prime candidate to rework his deal and give them some cap relief in the process.

Suggs, 32, still has another four years remaining on his five-year, $28.5 million contract that includes $16 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $4 million (2015), $4.5 million (2016), and $4 million (2017-2018) over the remainder of the agreement.

Last year, Suggs appeared in all 16 games for the Ravens and recorded 61 tackles, 12 sacks, a fumble recovery and a safety. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 4 outside linebacker in a 3-4 system out of 46 qualifying players.
