Ravens See Joe Flacco As Their Franchise QB

Following Sundays loss to the New England Patriots, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh mentioned that he views QB Joe Flacco as a franchise quarterback and added that he’s deserving of a new contract.

Obviously, he played well enough to win this game. I think his best football is in front of him,” Harbaugh said, via ESPN.com. “He’s only getting better. He’s our kind of guy. He’s a tough guy, a competitive guy. He’s a leader, and I just can’t wait to see where this thing goes with him. The plays that he made down the stretch, I think it says a lot about him and his future.”

Flacco will enter the final year of his rookie contract which pays him a base salary of $4.61 million next season. Baltimore could make re-signing Flacco a priority in the coming weeks in an attempt to prevent his contract from being a distraction as they head into the 2012 season.

Despite losing the AFC Championship yesterday, Flacco looked pretty good for the most part. They certainly didn’t lose the game because of him and it’s hard to imagine that they would have been driving for the win without him. It usually helps to play your best on the big stage and Flacco certainly looked much better on Sunday than he did at other points during season.
