The Baltimore Ravens announced Tuesday that they’ve reach an agreement with CB Jimmy Smith on a contract extension.
- Pro Football Talk reports that Smith’s new contract is a four-year deal worth $48 million and includes $21 million fully guaranteed.
- Smith gets a signing bonus of $13 million to go along with $1 million salary for the 2015 season. After that Smith receives $7 million fully guaranteed in 2016, $8.5 million in 2017, $9 million in 2018, and $9.5 million in 2019. (Jason La Canfora)
Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti mentioned a few weeks ago that they wanted to get Smith under contract long-term, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Smith has been their best cornerback, which happens to still be a position of need for the Ravens.
Smith, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011. He played out his four-year, $7,461,700 rookie contract before the team picked up his fifth-year option last year.
As things stand right now, Smith is set to make a base salary of $6.898 million for the 2015 season.
In 2014, Smith was limited to appearing in just eight games after he sustained a “Lisfranc” injury. He wound up recording 28 tackles, one interception and eight pass defenses for the Ravens.
