Ravens Sign Draft Picks TE Gilmore, OL Urschel & QB Wenning

The Baltimore Ravens announced the signing of three draft picks: third-round TE Crockett Gilmore, fifth-round C/G John Urschel and sixth-round QB Keith Wenning.

Gilmore is viewed as an in-line tight end.  The Colorado State product could vill a significant void in that regard, as Baltimore’s other two tight ends-Dennis Pitta and Owen Daniels-are known more for their receiving skills.  Gilmore does have the potential however, to be a reliable receiver.  Despite lacking elite athleticism, Gilmore caught 111 passes for 1,308 yards in his collegiate career.

Urschel is a durable interior lineman who started every game in his final two seasons at right guard for Penn State.  He will serve as interior depth for an offensive line that has performed poorly in recent years.

Wenning had a prolific career at Ball State, registering 92 touchdown passes and 11,402 yards, both Ball State records.  Of course, it was a quarterback-friendly offense, but Wenning is a rhythm passer who knows how to move the chains.  Baltimore currently has QB Tyrod Taylor as a backup to Joe Flacco, but he is entering the final year of his deal.  Should Wenning make the team, and subsequently impress, Baltimore may have an interesting decision to make for their backup spot.
