Ravens Sign RB Trent Richardson After Workout

Matt Zenitz of AL.com reports that the Ravens have signed RB Trent Richardson to a contract on Monday following a workout for team officially this morning.

  • Tom Pelissero reports that Richardson receives a one-year deal worth $675,000 deal from the Ravens.
  • The contract includes no guaranteed money, an injury waiver and a split salary.

Richardson wound up visiting with the team over a month ago, and there was talk that the Ravens were likely to sign him to a contract, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.

He previously told Jeff Zrbiec of the Baltimore Sun that he was looking forward to an opportunity with the Ravens.

“I can’t wait,” Richardson said. “I feel like I did when I left home from high school to go to college. To me, it’s about earning an opportunity that they gave him. I’m in a position to earn a spot on the team, a chance to actually be that guy. I know there’s going to be a lot of competition. I know there’s going to be a lot of fighting among ourselves, but we’re all out there for the same thing. We all want to try and get better, we all want to be that guy. But at the same time, I’m coming in and I’m ready to work.”

Richardson added that he still has a lot to prove and plans to give it his all.

I’ve got a lot to prove to myself,” Richardson said. “It’s not about everybody else this time, it’s about me. I’m really giving it my all. It’s enough talk. We’ve been doing a lot of talking. Now it’s just time to put up.”

Richardson, 25, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Browns during the 2012 NFL draft. However, he lasted just over a year in Cleveland before he was traded to the Colts for a first-round pick.

The Raiders elected to sign him to a two-year, $3.85 million contract that included $600,000 guaranteed back in March last year only to release him during roster cuts.

In 2014, he ran for 519 yards on 159 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with 27 receptions for 229 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 29 running back out of 57 qualifying players.
