Ravens TE Dennis Pitta Could Retire, Depending On How Things Go Over Next 3 Weeks

Jamison Hensley of ESPN writes that there’s a “good chance” Ravens TE Dennis Pitta‘s future in the NFL will be determined over the next three weeks.

Baltimore has a three-week window in which they’ll have to decide whether or not to activate him from the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Pitta returned to practice in recent and days and was surprised by how well his surgically repaired hip felt. However, he admitted that the game is still a little fast for him right now.

“I would like to think that if I can’t make it back this year, what’s going to change next year?” Pitta said. “For me, in my mind, I’m working to get back this year. If I can’t, that might be it.”

Pitta said that he’s not focusing on the fact that there’s no guarantee he’ll ever play another snap in the NFL.

“That’s not really something I’m even ready to answer,” Pitta said. “This is obviously a period where we’re just trying to get a feel for where I’m at and where I can potentially help the team if it comes to that. I’m encouraged by how it felt today.

Pitta, 30, has base salaries of $4 million (2015), $5 million (2016), $5.5 million (2017-2018) coming his way over the remainder of the contract.

In 2014, Pitta was limited to appearing in three games and catching 16 passes for 125 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
