Ravens Place TE Dennis Pitta On Season-Ending Injured Reserve

Update:

The Baltimore Ravens announced Tuesday that they have placed TE Dennis Pitta on season-ending injured reserve.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh announced Monday that TE Dennis Pitta is out for the season after undergoing surgery on his dislocated hip.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun updates the situation involving Ravens TE Dennis Pitta and his most recent hip dislocation by reporting that his hip popped back in successfully Sunday night after he was sedated.

According to Wilson, Pitta is considered likely to undergo surgery to repair the damage to his right hip. Pitta is expected to remain in Cleveland this week.

Wilson adds team sources believe Pitta sustained a hip fracture, which could be a major concern for his future in the NFL.

Former Chargers team physician, David Chao, mentioned last night that a hip fracture could be career-ending for Pitta based on the fact that this is a similar injury to the one he suffered last year.

We’ll have more updates regarding Pitta’s status as the news is available.

Jason Cole of the Bleacher Report mentions that if further tests show that Ravens TE Dennis Pitta does in fact have another hip fracture, it could end up being career-ending.

There were already questions about how he would respond a year after he sustained the injury, so this is a major concern for Pitta and Ravens.

Aaron Wilson is now reporting that further testing shows that Ravens TE Dennis Pitta could have a hip fracture.

  • Wilson adds that he will undergo a final CT scan at some point, but he did dislocate his hip.

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta was carted off during Week 3’s game with right hip injury, which happens to be the same hip that he injured last year.

Pitta wound up missing nearly the entire 2013 season due to the hip injury, but he was able to return for the final four games of the season.

Baltimore had to make some tough moves during the offseason to free up enough cap space to retain Pitta and some of their other free agents.

Pitta, 29, signed a five-year, $32.5 million contract that included $16 million guaranteed and an $11 million signing bonus. The fact Pitta received so much money upfront allowed the Ravens to pay him a reasonable base salary of $1 million this season. Next year, he’ll make $4 million.
