Ravens Will Not Allow RB Ray Rice To Test Free Agency

Baltimore Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti told reporters that the team will use the franchise tag on RB Ray Rice to prevent him from hitting the open market.

Ray … will be a part of this football team next year, period,” Bisciotti said.

Raven GM Ozzie Newsome was asked if they planned on discussing a new contract with Rice before using the tag on him.

Yes, we would like to have a deal done with Ray before we put the tag on him, said Newsome.

Using their franchise tag on Rice will cost them $7.7 million for the upcoming season which is a pretty reasonable number for a star running back. Still, Baltimore has a number of players to address during the offseason as well as some roster holes to fill. Yesterday we broke down what figures to by a busy offseason for the Ravens.
