Ravens & Torrey Smith Have Mutual Interest In A Contract Extension

Update:

Ravens WR Torrey Smith recently made it clear that he wants to be back in Baltimore next year and beyond.

“Everybody knows I want to  be in Baltimore for the long haul,” Smith on Wednesday, via the Baltimore Sun. “Even when my playing days are long gone, I’ll still be here. It’s something I’m looking forward to. I’m pretty sure and hopeful that it will be able to happen one day. It’s a business. I’m not losing any sleep wondering what’s going to happen contractually.”

According to Aaron Wilson, the Ravens have yet to start contract negotiations with Smith’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus. However, Wilson adds that the two sides are “motivated” to get a deal done at some point in time.

Smith, 25, is entering the final year of his rookie contract will make just $837,168 for the 2014 season, so he’s clearly in need of a big raise.

Last year, he caught 65 passes for 1,128 yards and four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 60 receiver in the league last year.

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti told reporters on Monday that “nothing would make him happier” than getting a contract extension in place for WR Torrey Smith before this year’s draft, per Matt Zenitz.

  • Bisciotti added that he told Smith’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, on Monday; “We’ve got to get that done.
  • Bisciotti mentioned that he’s “optimistic” they can get an extension worked out at some point in the near future.

He has quickly become the Ravens best receiver since they used a second-round pick on him back in 2011.
