Still A Chance Ravens WR Breshad Perriman Could Return For 2016 Season, Having Scope Tuesday

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Ravens WR Breshad Perriman will undergo arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to determine if he’ll need reconstruction surgery to repair his damaged ACL.

  • According to Schefter, Dr. James Andrews examination of Perriman’s knee revealed he may not have significant ACL tear.
  • A source tells Schefter that there’s “absolutely” a chance that Perriman could return for 2016 season.
  • In the event it’s determined that Perriman doesn’t need reconstruction surgery, Ian Rapoport mentions that he would undergo a stem cell injection so ACL can heal on its own.
  • In regards to the optimism about Perriman’s knee, Rapoport’s source have said: “[I]t’s an ACL. They’re tricky. You never know.

Reports from over the weekend mentioned that Perriman sustained a partially torn ACL in his left knee, but it sounds like there’s at least some hope that it may not be as bad as initially feared.

Perriman sustained the injury to his knee on a back-shoulder fade last week that did not involve any contact with a defender.

Last year, Perriman sustained a partially torn PCL in his right knee last year that cost him his rookie season.

The Ravens bolstered their receiver depth by signing Mike Wallace in free agency. As of now, Steve Smith, Wallace and Kamar Aiken appear to be in line to be their top-three receivers in 2016.

Perriman, 22, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick last year and is currently in the second year of his four-year, $8.705 million rookie contract that includes $7.09 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $830,697 for the 2016 season.

We’ll have more regarding Perriman and his status as the news is available.
