Ray Rice “Wouldn’t Be Unhappy” With The Franchise Tag

Ravens RB Ray Rice mentioned that he’s open to the idea of being franchised but it’s not exactly what he’s hoping for.

I would prefer a long-term deal over the franchise tag but I wouldn’t be unhappy with the franchise tag,” said Rice, per Aaron Wilson.

Obviously, this is good news for the Ravens. Signing Rice is by far the most important issues that they’ll have to address during the offseason but the fact that Rice is willing to work with them gives Baltimore some room to address other positions. Football Outsiders projects the franchise tag for running backs to be between $7.778 and$8.088 million for next season.

The Ravens have other free agents like G Ben Grubbs, CB Lardarius Webb, DE Cory Redding and DE/OLB Jarrett Johnson to address so it will be interesting to see how they handle these players.

All of the players mentioned are in our Top 50 Free Agents list. We have Rice listed as the #3 best available free agent.
