Re-Signing Derrick Morgan Likely A Priority For Titans

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that the Titans have been in contact with a number of their free agents and are interested in re-signing DE/OLB Derrick Morgan.

Titans GM Ruston Webster said previously that they would like to re-sign Morgan in the coming months, so he appears to be a priority for them.

“I’ve told Derrick we want him back, so we’ll just have to see how that goes,” Webster said, via Alex Marvez. “You never know where the player or the agent is, but we would like to have Derrick back.

Webster added that he wasn’t sure how Morgan was going to fit into the team’s new 3-4 defense this year, but he was overall impressed with how well he did at sam linebacker for them.

Morgan’s coming off of a solid 2014 season and could garner a decent amount of interest on the open market, seeing he has shown the ability to play in multiple defensive systems as a pass-rusher.

Morgan, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Titans. He played out his five-year, $15,395,010 rookie contract that included $10.6 million guaranteed and is now prepared to test the open market in the next few months.

In 2014, Morgan recorded 63 tackles, 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and seven pass defenses for the Titans over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 outside linebacker in a 3-4 system out of 46 qualifying players this past season.

We have him listed as the No. 34 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
