Re-Signing Sebastian Vollmer The Patriots’ “No. 1Priority?”

Zuri Berry of the Boston Globe believes that re-signing tackle Sebastian Vollmer should be the Patriots’ “No. 1 priority” this offseason.

“Along with second-year pro Nate Solder, Vollmer represents a core piece of the team’s stability,” Writes Berry. “Signing him now, going into his fifth year, should be the team’s No. 1 priority.”

The Patriots will have a little more than $18 million in cap space at their disposal, so they figure to have a tough re-signing the likes of Aqib Talib, Wes Welker, and Julian Edelman if they decide to lockup Vollmer.

It’s expected that Talib could draw offers that include $8 million annually on the open market and the Patriots are reportedly reluctant to offer him a long-term deal.

Berry mentions that Vollmer could draw offers of around $4.5 million per year, which would put him in the class of tackles with the likes of Joe Staley, Jeff Backus, Tyson Clabo, and Eric Winston.

We have Vollmer listed as the No. 8 best available player in our list of Top 50 free agents list.
