Real Possibility Tom Coughlin Takes Over As Jaguars’ Head Coach In 2019

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, there is a growing perception around the NFL that Jaguars president Tom Coughlin could end up coaching the team in 2019 as part of major changes to the franchise.

The Jaguars are in the midst of a disappointing and there has been increasing buzz about the possibility of Coughlin returning to the sidelines and replacing HC Doug Marrone to get things turned around.

La Canfora says that friends and associates of Coughlin have long believed that he may have a hard time not wanting to take over the team since returning to Jacksonville in 2016. With the team’s collapse this season, La Canora writes that this has only “intensified that feeling among them.

The Jaguars clearly lack discipline, which is something Coughlin has been known for during his coaching career. Sources have told La Canfora that Coughlin has been “appalled” by some of what he has seen from the Jaguars this season, which includes “penalties, issues with the media, outlandish statements, lashing out at teammates and opponents and failure to put forth the expected effort.

Those who know Coughlin tell La Canfora that he does not lack the vigor or spirit to go back to coaching.

No matter what the Jaguars elect to do in terms of their head coach, major changes are expected to come to a roster that is currently projected to be over the cap by $10 million in 2019.

We’ll have more regarding Coughlin and the Jaguars as the news is available.
