Redskins CB Josh Norman To Miss Few Weeks With Rib Injury

Redskins HC Jay Gruden tells Lisa Salters of ESPN coming out of halftime that CB Josh Norman will “be out a couple of weeks” with a rib injury.

Norman was taken to the locker room during the second quarter of Monday night’s game against the Chiefs and has been replaced by Quinton Dunbar.

Losing Norman for any period of time will be a big setback for the Redskins’ defense, but they do have a bye coming up, so that will at least mitigate his loss to some extent.

Norman, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2012. He spent four years in Carolina and actually received the Panthers’ franchise tag last year, but the team surprisingly pulled the tender and he eventually signed a five-year, $75 million contract that includes $36.5 million fully guaranteed with the Redskins.

Norman stands to make base salaries of $16.5 million and $13.5 million over the next two years of the contract.

Entering tonight’s game, Norman had appeared in three games and recorded 12 tackles, two forced fumbles, no interceptions and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 30 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
