Redskins & DL Chris Baker Have Had “Encouraging” Talks, WAS To Make Offer Next Week

Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins met with free agent DL Chris Bakers‘ representatives at the Combine and have had “encouraging” talks.

According to Jones, the expectation is that the Redskins will submit an offer Bakers’ representatives on Tuesday.

Baker, 29, originally signed on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Hampton back in 2009. He lasted just over a year in Denver before he was waived and later signed to the Dolphins practice squad.

After Miami cut hism loose at the start of the 2011 season, Baker signed on to the Redskins’ taxi squad has spent the past five years in Washington.

He’s now in a position to be one of the best interior defensive linemen in this year’s free agent class.

In 2016, Baker appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and recorded 48 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 18 interior defensive lineman out of 127 qualifying players.
