Redskins Expected To Pick Up Ryan Kerrigan’s Fifth-Year Option

Jason La Canfora mentions that he “fully expects” the Redskins to pick up OLB Ryan Kerrigan‘s fifth-year option before Saturday’s deadline.

Washington used the No. 16 overall pick on Kerrigan back in 2011. His fifth-year option would run the Redskins $7.038 million for the 2015, but this figure is only guaranteed for injury and wouldn’t prevent them from negotiating a long-term contract.

Kerrigan, 25, hasn’t missed a single game since entering the NFL. He did, however, undergo an arthroscopic knee surgery back in January, but recent reports mentioned that his knee has recovered well and it shouldn’t be an option moving forward.

Last year, Kerrigan totaled 66 tackles, 8.5 sacks and four forced fumbles for the Washington defense.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 24 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme last season.
