Redskins Going With Running Back Committee?

David Elfin of 106.7 The Fan doesn’t see Mike Shanahan‘s running back by committee approach lasting very long in Washington.

With Hightower slumping and a little banged-up and Torain healthy and on fire, Shanahan said that he won’t decide on his starter until Sunday,” Elfin writes. “Rubbish.”

It’s widely know that Shanahan prefers to use a number of running backs rather than the featured back approach so the news that he considering using Tim Hightower, Ryan Torain and Roy Helu in different capacities isn’t all that shocking.

We have three backs that I really believe in,” Shanahan said. “Ryan had a heck of a game (against the Rams). Any time a guy is averaging seven yards a carry, you’re sure going to give him an opportunity to show us what he can do.”

In other words,” Elfin writes, “the job Torain’s to take and run with it (pun intended).”

Torain looked great two weeks ago but things change quickly so it’s hard to feel comfortable saying that he’ll be the main guy against the Eagles this weekend.
