Redskins HC Jay Gruden Not On Hot Seat, No Major Changes Planned For WAS

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Redskins HC Jay Gruden isn’t on the hot seat and may never have been at any point this year.

According to Rapoport, there’s an understanding within the Redskins regarding the injuries they dealt with this year and how Gruden and his staff kept things together as the season played out.

As of now, Rapoport says that there are no major changes in Washington next year.

Meanwhile, Michael Lombardi reports that the Redskins are trying to extend some of their assistant coaches, which further implies that Gruden is safe.

There was some talk that Gruden could be a target for the Bengals to replace Marvin Lewis if he became available. However, it sounds like Cincinnati will be looking elsewhere in the coming weeks.

Gruden, 50, began his NFL coaching career with the Buccaneers as an offensive assistant. He spent seven years in the position before departing for a job with the Florida Tuskers.

Gruden returned to the NFL as the Bengals offensive coordinator in 2011 before he was hired as the Redskins coach for the 2014 season.

During his four years in Washington, Gruden has led them to a record of 28-34 (45.2 percent), which includes one playoff appearance back in 2015.
