Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that former Giants DC Perry Fewell has agreed to join the Redskins’ coaching staff.

The 49ers had interest Fewell as well, but he reportedly preferred to remain on the east coast. The Bengals also came up as a speculative option for Fewell as well.

Fewell replaces Raheem Morris, who recently accepted a position with the Atlanta Falcons.

Washington has already added Joe Barry as their new defensive coordinator, but Fewell will have his work cut out for him given that the Redskins’ secondary has been a very poor unit in recent years.

Fewell had held the Giants’ defensive coordinator position since being hired back in 2010. However, the Giants elected to move in a new direction and ultimately brought back their former defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to replace Fewell.
