Redskins Inform OLB Junior Galette They Won’t Be Re-Signing Him

Redskins senior VP of player personnel Doug Williams tells Liz Clarke of the Washington Post that they’ve informed free agent OLB Junior Galette that they’re “going in another direction” at his position next season.

“I did tell him we were going in another direction, and he was very thankful,” Williams said at the NFL owners meeting in Orlando on Sunday. “He had two Achilles’ injuries, and we stuck by him. We gave him a chance, and he’s very appreciative of it. He told me, ‘Thank you. If it wasn’t for you, I don’t know whether I’d still be here,’ so it was a good conversation.

On Friday, Chick Hernandez of NBC Sports Washington reported that the Redskins have withdrawn their latest offer to Galette, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise. According to Hernandez, several teams remain in play for Galette including the Browns and Rams.

It’s worth mentioning that a recent report said that veteran OLB Pernell McPhee is planning to sign with the Redskins (NFLTR).

Galette, 29, originally signed on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Stillman back in 2010. The Saints later signed him to a massive four-year extension only to cut him loose less than a year into the new contract.

Galette signed on with the Redskins in 2015 but suffered multiple season-ending injuries. He’s testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2017, Galette appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and recorded 20 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 31 edge rusher out of 106 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
