Redskins’ Kevin O’Connell Won’t Be Joining UCLA, Promoted To Passing Game Coordinator

Redskins HC Jay Gruden announced Tuesday that QBs coach Kevin O’Connell won’t be departing the team to become UCLA’s offensive coordinator and he will instead be promoted to passing game coordinator, per Ian Rapoport.

Last week, Ian Rapoport reports that the Redskins could be in danger of losing O’Connell, as he was believed to  be Chip Kelly’s “top target” for UCLA’s offensive coordinator position.

O’Connell, 32, is a former third-round pick of the Patriots back in 2008. After five years in the NFL, O’Connell was hired by the Browns as their quarterbacks coach in 2015.

O’Connell spent one year with the 49ers before the Redskins hired him as their quarterbacks coach last year.
