Redskins Notes: Robert Griffin III, Pat White, Roy Helu

Robert Griffin III

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Redskins QB Robert Griffin III will start Week 1 against the Eagles.

  • Albert Breer adds that RGIII has been taking all of theĀ first-team reps this week.

On Tuesday, Griffin III said he felt he was 100-percent and been shattering expectedĀ timetables in his return from a torn ACL. Griffin has reportedlyĀ impressed during 11-on-11 drills for theĀ past few weeks.

It’s still unknown if the Redskins will decrease the amount of run plays for RGIIIĀ in their read-option offense.Ā Dr. James Andrews is expected to clear Griffin III’s knee shortly.

Pat White

Jason La Canfora of CBS SportsĀ expects Pat White to be named the Redskins No. 3 QB following a solid a preseason.

  • La Canfora would add that “there is a good chance”Ā  White plays the entire preseason finale against Tampa Bay.

This would suggest that veteran QB Rex Grossman is on the chopping block.Ā La Canfora is under the assumption that Washington could always re-signĀ Grossman at a later point in the season, but there’s a decent enough chance that White would be claimed if they were to release him.

Either way, we’re talking about the No. 3 quarterback on the team, so the plan is to prevent any situation where either of these players would see game-action.

Roy Helu

Washington officially named RB Roy Helu asĀ their No. 2 back behind Alfred Morris, according to Mark Maske of The Washington Post.

Helu appears to be finally healthy and was able to demonstrate that he can be a solid backup this preseason. So far, he’s tallied 157 yards rushing on 27 carries and a touchdown.

Look for Helu to factor into the team’s passing attack as a third-down back.
