Redskins Officials & Coaches Want To Move On From RGIII, Have Discussed Trading Him

Update:

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing multiple sources, reports that a schism does not exist between Redskins Daniel Snyder and the team’s football operations regarding QB Robert Griffin III.

In fact, one source specifically referred to the report from ESPN as “spaghetti journalism” and other sources have said the idea that the front office is “meeting resistance” from owner Snyder simply isn’t true.

According to Florio, everyone in Washington is on the same page regarding their roles and responsibilities with GM Scot McCloughan being in charge of the team’s 53-man roster.

According to Dianna Russini and Adam Schefter of ESPN“high-ranking” Redskins front office officials and coaches on the team want to move on from quarterback Robert Griffin III, but are meeting resistance from the team’s ownership.

Washington has reportedly had trade conversations about Griffin with a handful of NFL teams. However, they’ve found no  interest and it’s still unclear if ownership would even sign off on a trade of RGIII.

According to the report, it’s becoming “increasingly apparent” that Griffin has lost his starting job, and there’s even some question whether his roster spot could be in danger.

Among the football people within the organization, there is a “strong segment” who wants to make a change at quarterback, but there is reportedly some question regarding whether they have the authority to move on from Griffin.

Interestingly enough, Washington’s decision to pick up RGIII’s fifth-year option worth $16.1 million for the 2016 season has reportedly had an inverse effect, and it will no longer guarantee he’s back with the team next year.

The report mentions that the Redskins are “determined to start a different quarterback than Griffin on opening day against the Miami Dolphins, and Griffin’s time as the starter now appears over.

We’ll have more regarding the Redskins and Griffin as the news is available.
