Redskins OLB Junior Galette Suffers Torn Achilles, Out For Season

Update:

Chick Hernandez reports that Redskins OLB Junior Galette did, in fact, tear his Achilles and will subsequently miss the 2015 season.

Multiple reports have said that the Redskins fear that OLB Junior Galette has a torn Achilles and could be out for the season.

———-

Dianna Marie Russini reports that early indications are that Redskins OLB Junior Galette may have suffered a torn Achilles.

  • Ian Rapoport confirms that Washington is concerned that Galette tore his Achilles during Wednesday’s practice.
  • Galette is still scheduled to undergo further testing to confirm the severity of the injury.

Should test confirm a torn Achilles for Galette, it would cost him most of, if not all, the 2015 season.

Redskins HC Jay Gruden told reporters after Wednesday’s practice that OLB Junior Galette went down with a potentially severe ankle/foot injury.

Gruden said that he’s “very concerned” about Galette’s injury at this point in time, per Albert Breer.

Galette, 27, wound up signing a one-year, $745,000 contract with the Redskins a few weeks after he was somewhat surprisingly released by the Saints.

Washington got a great deal on an impact defensive player and added some depth to their group of pass rushers. However, there’s a reason the Saints moved on from Galette, as he had been involved in numerous off-the-field issues.

In 2014, Galette appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and recorded 45 tackles, 10 sacks, three forced fumbles, two safeties and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 4 defensive end in a 4-3 defense out of 59 qualifying players.
