Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Media are reporting that Redskins OLB Trent Murphy suffered a torn ACL during Thursday’s preseason game and is out for the season.
- Adam Schefter confirms the news and adds Murphy also have a torn MCL.
This has been a forgettable year for Murphy, as he was suspended the first four games of 2017 for violating NFL policy on performance enhancing substances back in April.
The Redskins will likely place him on injured reserve and add someone to their roster in the coming days.
Murphy, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Redskins back in 2014. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $4.472 million contract that includes $2.616 million guaranteed and is set to make a base salary of $1.03 million for the 2016 season.
In 2016, Murphy appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and recorded 47 tackles, nine sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 23 edge defender out of 109 qualifying players.
