Redskins Place DE Tavaris Barnes On IR After Clearing Waivers

The Washington Redskins officially placed DE Tavaris Barnes on injured reserve Wednesday after he passed through waivers unclaimed.

Barnes, 26, wound up signing on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson back in May of 2015. He managed to make the 53-man roster during his rookie season but was waived in the days leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Seahawks signed him to a contract just a few days later but unfortunately waived him with an injury designation during the preseason and he later reverted to their injured reserve list.

Barnes was on and off of the Redskins’ practice squad last year before returning to the team on a futures contract this past January. Unfortunately, Washington waived him with an injury designation on Tuesday.

In 2015, Barnes appeared in 12 games for the Saints and recorded five tackles and no sacks.
