Redskins Place OLB Trent Murphy On I.R. & Sign OL Rishaw Johnson

The Washington Redskins announced Tuesday that they have placed rookie OLB Trent Murphy on season-ending injured reserve and signed OL Rishaw Johnson off of the Giants’ practice squad.

  • Washington signed WR Colin Lockett to their practice squad.

The Redskins used a second-round pick on Murphy earlier in the year.

Murphy, 24, finishes his first season in the NFL with 33 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery over the course of 15 games.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 23 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense this year due to a solid rating as a run defender.

Johnson, 25, signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of  California University of Pennsylvania back in 2012. He later signed to the Chiefs practice squad in September of last year and wound up appearing in three games for Kansas City.

The Chiefs later traded Johnson to the Buccaneers in return for Kelcie McCray, but Johnson didn’t last long with Tampa Bay. He signed to the Cowboys, Packers and Giants’ practice squads since being waived by the Bucs.
