Redskins Place S Donte Whitner On Injured Reserve, Sign S Josh Evans

The Washington Redskins placed S Donte Whitner on injured reserve and signed S Josh Evans to a contract.

Whitner, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Bills back in 2006. After five years with the Bills, Whitner signed on with the 49ers and later joined the Browns in 2014.

He was in the third year of his four-year, $28 million contract when he was cut loose by the Browns back in April. The Redskins later signed him to a contract this past October.

In 2016, Whitner has appeared in 11 games for the Redskins and recorded 66 tackles, no interceptions, a forced fumble and no pass defenses.

Evans, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2013. He was in the final year of his four-year, $2.289 million contract and set to make a base salary of $675,000 for the 2016 season when the Jaguars elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

The Redskins signed Evans to contract back in October but waived him to make room for RB Mack Brown.

In 2016, Evans appeared in two games for the Redskins and recorded one tackle and no interceptions.
